Petition to Remove Haiti’s Debt

Petition

As a first generation Haitian American I grew to love Haiti in every level of poverty that they hit.  With the earthquake that hit literally a week ago I have been questioning the what will happen to Haiti after all of this.  Will it become like the Bahamas, where there is so much monetary interest from abroad?  Will people forget about us?  I have been trying to do my part and get news to people of several different things via the resources I have.  I was on a quest for new that is not from the states and I stumbled across the post before this and in the comments section i found this.

I would like for you to give me a moment so I can explain to you why this is important.  I would like to show you videos of how Haiti was just before the earthquake. Some notes on some videos: Feeding Haiti, Cite Soleil. It is a part of life to have to lock your doors every time you get in the car because of the way they execute a kidnapping.

Pictures: Haiti Six Days Later

January 19th, 2010 by Chaz (0) Haiti

Haiti remains a place of profound need, anguish, desperation and danger, with a few glimmers of hope and slowly growing capabilities to receive and distribute the international aid now flowing in. Sporadic looting, sometimes violent, was met with force by security oficials and ordinary citizens, resulting in a number of further deaths and injuries. The tenuous security situation has led to at least one temporary evacuation of a medical facility, to protect the care-givers. Despite the long time since the earthquake, at least five people were pulled from the rubble alive this weekend, including a young girl trapped inside a supermarket who was fortunately surrounded by food, and survived on fruit snacks.  Some of these pictues are very graphic they will appear all black.  Click on the Image to view it. Port-au-Prince, Haiti – Doctors helping survivors of the earthquake in Haiti have turned to conducting surgeries in the streets of Port-au-Prince, the head of Doctors Without Borders in Haiti told the German Press Agency dpa. The international organization Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) has long been active in Haiti, operating three hospitals in Haitian capital Port-au-Prince alone. However, the hospitals all suffered such severe damages in Tuesday’s devastating quake that they can no longer be used.

“The most important thing is saving human lives. That is what we have been trying to do from the start, and we will continue to do it,” said Dutch doctor Hans van Dillen, who leads the organization’s team in Haiti.

“There is a huge number of extraordinarily-seriously injured. Now, so many days after the quake, the situation is not getting better. This means that we have to carry out a large number of amputations of arms and legs. Saving human lives without any medical equipment, that is the challenge at hand.”

Most people in Haiti do not even want to hear of going into hospitals, just like many of them are scared to go home amid fear of aftershocks.

“People are so traumatized that they refuse to go into buildings, no matter how good the condition they are in. That is why we have taken out medical equipment outdoors and have started to perform surgery in the open air.”

“We have even done amputations there. For example yesterday, with a fallen tree trunk as an operating table. There is no alternative. It is a choice between life and death.”

Van Dillen notes that aid is gradually starting to arrive on the streets of Port-au-Prince.

“The airport especially was a nightmare, and it took some time until it was again operational. Many of the medical materials that were urgently needed had to be brought in via the Dominican Republic.”

“We estimate that half-a-million people are injured. In the next few days we will bring over a field hospital, and we are waiting for a government permit to see where we can put it.”
