Usain “Lighting” Bolt’s New Passport
The 23 Year old Jamaican Olympic Gold medalist needs no introductions. He has done more things in the past few years than many of us will achieve in 12 lifetimes, if you believe in that sort of thing. Owning a 09′ Nissan Skyline, adopting a cheetah, being on stage with the most notable reggae artists, and even having a song written about you just to name a few.
In recent news Usain Bolt has been issued a diplomatic passport. This doesn’t mean he can now be the James Bond of Jamaica and assassinate people free of trouble, that is diplomatic immunity. He is more of an ambassador than a secret agent. Bolt a great icon and role model for not only Jamaica but all children from impoverished countries. Everywhere Bolt goes he has been asked by Golding to let people know that it is Jamaica he is from and positive influence. Now for a few words from Bolt and Golding.
“This is a big thing for me and I will try to do my best and will live up to your expectations,” Bolt told Golding after accepting the document.
Golding praised Bolt as a role model who can continue to make Jamaica proud.
“We have a great athlete, a great icon, someone who can help to strengthen Jamaica’s image right across the globe,” Golding said.
The Prime Minister said the presentation of the diplomatic passport was not an award but a way of asking Bolt to help promote Jamaica’s image overseas.
“We want the world never to forget for one moment that he is Jamaican to the bone and he has so strengthened our image and is such a powerful symbol of what Jamaicans can become,” he said.
“We are asking him in his travels, whatever he does and wherever he goes, that he be Jamaica’s ambassador and continues to bring glory to the country and makes sure that everyone understands that respect is due,” Golding added.
