Ne-Yo in NYC Speaks about Domestic Violence
There is this lovely young, ambitious Haitian woman doing some major things out there. Just recently she coordinated an event with R&B star Ne-Yo to promote his song Heroes. The song is to create awareness of domestic violence. It was inspired by the issue between his peers Rihanna and Chris Brown as you all have heard about. As a man with several sisters I would only hope that none of them would have to suffer from such a situation. I only hope that those in that situation will find the courage to leave as Rihanna did.
I know this is a break from our normal content but abuse happens everywhere and to anyone. It costs you nothing to download and helps people like our Bajan Queen.
Shouts to Factory PR
The star who admittedly comes from an abusive household, made a statement to guests before launching the song. He shared his thoughts on last year’s highly-publicized dispute between Rihanna and Chris Brown. “It’s unfortunate it took an incident like that between Chris Brown and Rihanna to occur for this issue to get awareness,” said the star. “‘Heroes’ is not the traditional song about domestic violence,” Ne-Yo added. “I wanted to take a different approach. I feel like in a respecting and loving relationship, you should be a hero to your husband, to your wife, to your boyfriend, to your girlfriend… The song is about giving respect to those heroes in your life.” The crowd listened intently to the song and broke into applause at the end.
Ne-Yo, who last night premiered the song on Late Night with David Letterman, was approached by Alfani to write and record a song in tribute to healthy relationships to raise awareness for the RESPECT! Campaign. He was eager to be a part of bringing national attention to this issue to get awareness.
The event, hosted by Alfani, took place at hot NYC club SL with a strong crowd of music and fashion media. Guests enjoyed cocktails made with the newly released CÎROC Red Berry and CÎROC Coconut.
Heroes will be available for download on February 2nd (through March 31,, 2010) exclusively on www.macys.com/ne-yo. For each download, Alfani will donate $1 to the RESPECT! Campaign, up to $50,000.
